Kota Kinabalu: Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman advised administrators in the public sector to be more customer-oriented and not only work to achieve Key Performance Indicators (KPI).He said this echoes the People First concept espoused by the Prime Minister.

"As leaders in their place of work or organisation that they represent, we must give our best and not just to achieve KPIs but because it's our responsibility to deliver our best service to our customers," he said when launching the 4th Kinabalu Management and Professional Conference 2016, here, Wednesday. His speech was read by Assistant Finance Minister Datuk Ramlee Marahaban.

But still, he said, KPIs are important so that the service provided by an organisation could be holistically evaluated both quantitatively and qualitatively.

He reminded that leadership would be meaningless if it is not anchored towards accomplishment.

The two-day conference, organised by the Association of Management Officers and Professional (non-academic) of Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS), was aimed at providing a platform for knowledge and experience sharing on good management practices among individuals in management and administration.

Musa stressed the important role of administrators in ensuring their organisation reaches a level of first class human capital, one that is competitive and has high leadership characteristics.

"This aspect is seen as the most critical in achieving the national mission towards becoming a developed country," he added.

Earlier, UMS Vice-Chancellor Prof. Datuk Dr Mohd Harun Abdullah, in his speech read by the university's Registrar No'man Ahmad, said developed countries such as the United States, United Kingdom and Japan are led by leaders who have a high integrity.

"There's no room for corrupt ethics or rotten morals…leaders who have a heart for the people will always listen and seek the best solutions either for the country or even for the smallest organisation," he said.
