Ensure Fest's continued success: CM
Kota Kinabalu: Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman called on all quarters to come together to ensure the Kaamatan Festival continues to be a success for the good of all communities. He said Kaamatan has become the best model of communities of different backgrounds being able to live together in harmony and close to each other, aside from expressing gratitude for a bountiful padi harvest this year.

"Many races and ethnic groups would take this opportunity to spend time with friends and families during the festivities … I am confident the presence of various communities and tourists here proved that Kaamatan truly symbolises friendship, sense of belonging and unity that have been part of our culture and practices," said Musa, adding that this was in line with this year's Kaamatan Festival theme "Peace and Friendship."

His speech was read by Deputy Chief Minister cum Huguan Siou Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan during the closing ceremony of the 2016 State-level Kaamatan here on Tuesday.

Also present at the ceremony were the Head of State Tun Juhar Mahiruddin and wife, Toh Puan Norlidah Jasni, Cabinet ministers, heads of departments and agencies, delegates from the Romania embassy, as well as Governor of Palawan Jose Alvarez from the Philippines.

Musa said the government would not stop in its support towards all forms of cultural programmes as it is confident such programmes could further strengthen the unity of communities who are the backbone of the peace in Sabah, apart from giving a chance for all to be familiar and get acquainted with the cultural diversities of other races.

"I urge all communities to understand the message behind the cultural festivities as such events remind us of the similarities, friendship and unity among all in Sabah, which is known for its communities of diverse backgrounds and as the true definition of 1Malaysia," he said.

Towards this end, Musa hoped that the festival would continue to inspire and strengthen the will of Sabahans to continue to be united to strengthen the existing harmony to ensure stability, peace and prosperity of all.

He called on Sabahans to come together with the government for the continuance of prosperity and progress of the State, adding they must provide their support to the government to ensure all that is being planned for Sabah can be implemented successfully.

Earlier, Juhar, accompanied Pairin and Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun harvested padi to mark the symbolic closing of the event.

Visitors and dignitaries were thereafter entertained by performances from the SMK Nambayan Choir Group and local celebrities.
