Kota Kinabalu: A 36-year-old government servant will on June 22 get to know whether he has to answer to a charge of asking a bribe of RM6,000 from a man.Sessions Court Judge Dato Ishak Bakri fixed the date for Mohd Rithwan Mohd Salleh during clarification and submissions from both parties.
Mohd Rithwan is accused of asking the bribe from one Lee Shuk Wai as an inducement to close a case against Lee who was believed to have employed illegal immigrants.

The charge stated that Mohd Rithwan who was an immigration officer attached with the Immigration Office in Sandakan, was asked by Lee to not bring him to the court.
The offence under Section 17(a) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) 17(b) Act 2009 provides for a jail term of up to 20 years and a fine of not less than five times the amount of bribe received or RM10,000, whichever is higher.
The prosecution had called 18 witnesses during the hearing which was held in the Sandakan Sessions Court.
MACC Prosecuting Officer Awang Shamsul Baharom Bongsu conducted the prosecution while Mohd Rithwan was represented by counsel Ram Singh.
