15 Membakut Umno chiefs quit

Putatan: A total of 15 Umno members including five branch chiefs from Membakut decided to leave the party, Saturday.Umno Papas Laut branch chief from Membakut, K. Jasni Hassan, who led the group, said five Umno branch chiefs from Papas Laut, Pekan Membakut 3, Baitam, Rancangan Mawao and Kg Dungau decided to quit the party.The group included six Wanita members and four Youth members, Jasni said, adding their decision followed the sacking of party Deputy President Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and former Kedah Menteri Besar Kedah, Datuk Seri Mukhriz Tun Dr Mahathir from Umno on June 23.

And also because the membership of Umno Vice President Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal, who is Semporna MP, was suspended the same day."We often get to hear the party's struggle from political leaders but in reality, is what they are fighting for a symbol of strength to the nation and does it bring benefit to the people?"As the people of this country, we have the choice to assess whether our leaders are sincere in the party's struggle to lead and defend the people or if they are fighting for their own interests," he said.Also present was former Umno Semporna Vice Chief Datuk Dr Jaujan Sambakong. On Monday, Jaujan who is also Sulabayan Assemblyman and Giat Mara and Safma Chairman, announced leaving the party together with some 300 party members in the division.

Umno Kinabatangan treasurer for Pulau Bai Mahmod Hasan@ Tasan said they made the decision as they were not satisfied with the decision of the Umno Supreme Council to suspend the membership of Shafie Apdal.

However, Semporna Umno said the number who quit was much less as many of them who attended the press conference called by Jaujan were not aware that it was about leaving the party.
