Kota Kinabalu: Two men who robbed a worker of a 24-hour outlet, were jailed eight years and ordered to get a stroke of the cane each.Gilben Junior Gallus, 22, and Ericson Andre, 21, pleaded guilty before Sessions Court Judge Azreena Aziz to robbing one Alfio Nelson with a machete and knife at the Orange outlet in Jalan Pintas, Kepayan, here. They made off with RM782.40 belonging to the outlet at 4.30am on June 21 this year.

They committed the offence under Section 395/397 of the Penal Code which provides for a jail term of up to 20 years and whipping, on conviction.

In begging for a light sentence, both Gilben and Ericson informed the court that it was their first offence and they regretted their offence. However, Deputy Public Prosecutor Akmazatul Mohamed Nawi asked for a deterrent sentence.

The court heard that while Alfio and his other colleague were working at the premises, two unknown men entered the outlet.

One of the two men pointed a knife at Alfio and asked him to hand over all the money.

Alfio, who feared that the men, later identified as Gilben and Ericson, would harm him, surrendered the money.

The duo fled the scene but were arrested subsequently following a police report lodged by Alfio.

Meanwhile, Magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie handed three years' jail to a woman for cheating a man of RM1,400 over the People's Housing Programme project (PPR).

Fairieza De Souza Mohd, 32, also was ordered to pay a fine of RM3,000 or six months' jail after she admitted to cheating the man by making him believe that she could manage the purchase of a house under PPR in Meruntum.
