Kota Kinabalu: A 14-year-old foreigner was found dead after he was believed to have been electrocuted at Kg. Cahaya Baru, Mile 3, here, on Monday. The teenager, identified as Siman Rudi, was said to have been inside a boat in the swampy area when he fell into the water and electrocuted by wiring connections nearby.

He was pronounced dead by paramedics who arrived at the scene.

Sandakan Fire and Rescue Station Chief Mohd Razali Awang Ahmad said six personnel led by Japar Hamzah rushed to the scene after receiving a distress call at about 11.12am.

Several known fatalities caused by electrocution had been reported in the State, among them a civilian who was found dead after he slipped into a drain which had illegal wiring connections from a nearby electricity pole in Tawau last month.

A fireman was also electrocuted in the line of duty in Sandakan last year.
