AirAsia Group records 85pc load factor

Kuala Lumpur: AirAsia Group recorded a load factor of 85 per cent for the second quarter of 2016 (2Q16), up six percentage points (ppts)against the same period last year.In a statement Wednesday, AirAsia Bhd said the number of passengers carried increased 12 per cent year-on-year (y-o-y) to 13.9 million, well ahead of its four per cent increase in capacity.

At the end of the quarter under review, the Group's total fleet size stood at 172 aircraft.

Malaysia AirAsia posted load factor of 87 per cent in 2Q16, up 7 ppts y-o-y.

"Demand exceeded capacity with 10 per cent increase in the number of passengers carried at 6.55 million and one per cent increase in capacity.

"A new route, Johor Baharu – Guangzhou, was introduced during the quarter," AirAsia Bhd said.

It added Thai AirAsia recorded a load factor of 83 per cent in 2Q16, up 3 ppts y-o-y, Indonesia AirAsia was 83 per cent (up 10 ppts), with Philippines AirAsia at 91 per cent (up 11 ppts) as AirAsia India posted 87 per cent (up 4 ppts). – Bernama
