Labuan: Blessed with internationally recognised beaches and historic tourism spots, Labuan was chosen for the first time for the International Miss Chinese Cosmos Pageant Southeast Asia 2016 filming slot programme. The shooting of the film from July 25 to 27 at various attractive spots included at the popular turtle landing islands of Rusukan Besar and Kuraman, Japanese World War II Surrender Point of Peace Park of Taman Damai, Tiara Hotel and Palm Beach Resort and SPA.

The filming programme for the 21 contestants from five Asian countries namely Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand and Cambodia was part of the efforts to promote Malaysia's tourism industry especially Labuan.

Speaking at a welcoming dinner for the contestants and the organising committee at Palm Beach Resort and SPA here Tuesday night, Member of Parliament for Labuan Datuk Rozman Isli said the programme was timely as a concerted effort was in progress to boost the island into a premier tourist destination.

"Although, Labuan is internationally recognised as an international financial centre, we have listed tourism as our major industry in our blueprint to transform the island into a vibrant and a must-visit island," he said.

He said Labuan beaches had been listed among the attractive beaches in Southeast Asia with long-lasting sunset view at the United Nations Beach at Kg Sg. Miri.

"There will be upgrading facilities in the islands for visitors as part of the tourism sector development," he said.
