11 CGM contestants from East M'sia

Kota Kinabalu: The 16th edition of Classic Golden Melody (CGM) will witness the participation of the most number of East Malaysian contestants with 11 out of 40 of them hailing from Sabah and Sarawak.Astro's CGM is the region's biggest singing competition for talents aged 45 and above.The contestants will first be grouped into two teams helmed by renowned female duo Summer Grace, made up of Kwok Voon Voon and Kwok Yen Yen, as well as CGM 2015 champion Winnie Goh and first runner-up Lyee Cheok, respectively.

Following the competition, 12 Malaysian contestants will confront eight wildcard contestants from Singapore to vie for top 10 spots in the competition. The top 10 semi-finalists will then have to undergo one-on-one battles against handpicked vocal talents from Southeast Asia, before emerging as the top eight finalists.Astro's Vice President for Chinese Customer Business, Wong Siah Ping, said CGM has grown from strength to strength over the past 15 years, to become a household name and the most sought-after podium for aspiring talents in their golden age."We are committed to elevate this flagship programme to the next level by bringing together emerging talents across Southeast Asia for their chance to shine on CGM," he said.

CGM 2016 will also comprise a highly regarded panel of judges – Lee Yin Ping, Michelle Hsieh, Vicky Tan, Tee Kok Leong, Auguste Kwan and they will be joined by Felinda Wong and Lee Wei Song from Singapore and Kay Huang from Taiwan.Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.
