PM: Mustafar, Dzulkifli capable as MACC and Immigration heads

Kuala Lumpur: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak is confident that Datuk Dzulkifli Ahmad and Datuk Mustafar Ali are capable of performing well as the new Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Chief Commissioner and Immigration Department Director-General, respectively. He said the leadership quality of the two officers would definitely help boost public confidence in their respective agencies.

"I believe that their appointments will enable the two important agencies to perform well and smoothly, and hence, help boost public confidence," he told a press conference after chairing Umno Supreme Council meeting at Menara Dato' Onn, Putra World Trade Centre, here, Friday.

Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Ali Hamsa, in a statement Friday, announced Dzulkifli, who is Director of the National Revenue Recovery Enforcement Team in the Attorney-General's Chambers, would take over from Tan Sri Dr Abu Kassim Mohamed effective Aug 1 to July 31, 2021.

Ali said Abu Kassim would cease to be the MACC chief commissioner from Aug 1 as he intended, and would be the Integrity Consultant at the Faculty of Law of Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM).

In another development, Najib, who is Umno President, said the action taken by Umno Youth Vice-Chief Khairul Azwan Harun in lodging a police report against three top former government officials was done in his individual capacity.

As such, it was up to the police to decide whether the report had enough information on which to base an investigation.

"This is an individual action. Everyone has the right (to lodge a report) if he thinks he has the information, or feels that something must be investigated by the police. We cannot force him to lodge or not to lodge the report.

Last Tuesday, Khairul Azwan lodged a police report against former Attorney-General Tan Sri Abdul Gani Patail, former Bank Negara Governor Tan Sri Zeti Akhtar Aziz and Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Abu Kassim Mohamed, alleging that the trio were suspected to be involved in a conspiracy to topple Najib and the Government.
