Irish first-timers charm judges

Kota Kinabalu: First timers Ireland hit a triple when they grabbed the coveted Prime Award before taking also the Best Performance Award at the finals of the 11th Sabah International Folk Dance Competitions Saturday night. They hit a third when Mandy Stevenson was voted Best Female Dancer. Head of State Tun Datuk Seri Dr Haji Juhar Mahiruddin presented the top award to the leader of The Gaelic Girls Irish Dancing Troupe.ADVERTISEMENT The Chief Minister's Award and also the Best Choreography Award went to the Philippines represented by the Eastern Visaya State University while Chumacera Marco Elardo also won the Most Promising Male Dancer Award. Philippines also took the Highest Online Presence Award with 2,300 votes. Indonesia won the Culture Minister's Award in addition to the Best Music Arrangement Award while Malaysia was represented by Anak Seni Asia. Australia's Mckelaar Stephen Andrew deservedly won the Best Male Dancer Award for his stirring performance. South Korea's Ryu Mira took the Most Promising Female Dancer Award. India, Sri Lanka, Estonia and South Korea were presented the Appreciation Award for Debutante.
