Kota Kinabalu: The Sabah President Cup squad won their final home match of the season after defeating Penang 2-0 at the Likas Stadium on Thursday.Several first team players were rested in the match but the second stringers lived up to the call by team manager Datuk Juil Nuatim as they displayed a hungrier attitude and took the game to the opponents.

Their early efforts was rewarded when a penalty was awarded after one of the Penang players handled the ball inside the box and Devid Ansarui made no mistake from the spot to give his team the lead in the 16th minute.

Penang tried their best to get back into the game with several counterattacking moves but were unable to mount any serious threat on Sabah's makeshift defence.

Sabah added their second in the 89th minute when the fleet-footed Devid escaped his markers to make a teasing cross on the line which Afiq Mustaqim Mazlan managed a sliding pass for Fazreil Hanafi Stephanus to poke home.

With the three points in the pocket, the team have now collected 18 points from 17 matches played with five wins, three draws and nine losses.

Their final match of the season is against PKNS away on August 18.
