Nachimuthu moves into a share of lead

Kota Kinabalu: Veteran R. Nachimuthu moved into a share of the lead after the second round of the Professional Golf of Malaysia (PGM) Sabah Closed Championship Thursday.The 45-year-old shot a second successive three-under 69 to move to six-under 138, alongside overnight leader Nicholas Fung, who had a second day one-under 71 at Sabah Golf & Country Club in Kota Kinabalu.

The top-two were six strokes ahead of a two-way tie for third place where Kemarol Baharin and Ben Leong signed for 72 and 73, respectively. They had matching 144s.

S. Siva Chandhran (70), Khor Kheng Hwai (71) and Sukree Othman (72) were another shot back on 145, while Akhmal Tarmizee carded a 74 and was alone on 146. Nachimuthu and Fung continued their recent good form and look set to engage in a battle for the crown of the RM180,000 tournament.

Nachimuthu finished third at the I&P Match Play Championship in Kuala Lumpur on Sunday, while Fung clinched the title.

Nachimuthu's effort Thursday was marked by an impressive four-under over the last six holes. He had birdies at the 13th, 15th, 16th and 18th holes, after an opening-hole birdie. He also had bogeys at two par-3s, at the 5th and 12th holes.

Fung's round was characterised by four birdies and three bogeys.
