Jailed for stealing smartphones, cash

Kota Kinabalu: An 18-year-old man who stole two smartphones and cash from a man here last month was sent to prison for 25 months.Muhd Nizam Mustapha pleaded guilty at the Magistrate's Court to stealing the phones and RM500 belonging to one Syed Al Kadir Hassan Syed Al Abdul at 5.45am on July 14 at the bus stop in front of Bank Islam in the Umno building, at Jalan Kemajuan, here.

He had committed the offence along with two accomplices still at large.

The offence under Section 379 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to seven years or fine, or both, on conviction.

Muhd Nizam was ordered referred to the Immigration Department after serving his sentence.

In another case, a 23-year-old man was sentenced to 28 months' jail for assisting to sell stolen property.

Kamja Ali Pathan admitted to selling the stolen items, a television, a video player, two speakers and a mixer, belonging to one Abd Rahman Othman at 10am on July 24 at Kg Warisan in Inanam.

He was charged under Section 414 of the Penal Code which provides for a jail term of up to seven years and liability of a fine on conviction.

Meanwhile, 22-year-old Ridzuan Abdullah was handed three months' jail for trespassing a vehicle terminal.

Ridzuan admitted to committing the offence at the KK City Car Terminal, along Jalan Tanjung Lipat at 1pm on July 11.

Magistrate Cindy Mc Juce Balitus heard that Ridzuan, who was arrested by the security guard, confessed that he had sneaked into the area to take a bath and also to collect scrap metal.

Inspector P.Nathan, prosecuting, told the court that it was the fourth time Ridzuan had trespassed the area.
