Molest: Filipino gets 30 months

Kota Kinabalu: A 20-year-old jobless Filipino was sent to prison for 30 months for molesting a 17-year-old girl.Azmirul Karim, who was brought before Magistrate Jessica Ombou Kakayun admitted kissing the girl's cheek and caressing her back between 8pm and 9pm on June 28 at the staircase of a house at Kg Padang Tengah in Petagas.The girl was sitting on the staircase when an unknown man, later identified as Azmirul came and molested her.

Azmirul had committed an offence under Section 354 of the Penal Code which provides for a jail term of up to 10 years, or with whipping and liability of a fine, or any two of the punishments on conviction.He was ordered referred to the Immigration Department after serving his sentence.In another case, a man was fined RM2,000 or one week's jail for obstructing a policeman from carrying out his work.Cristoforus Yusif admitted to committing the offence while the police were screening him at 7.30pm Aug 10 in Inanam town.

Meanwhile, a 36-year-old Filipina, was jailed 64 months for taking drugs for the fourth time.Rohana Rahaman, 36, who admitted to the offence had three previous convictions for similar offences.

She was convicted under Section 15 (1) (a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 punishable under Section 39C (1) (b) of the same Act which carries a jail term of between five years and seven years and whipping of not more than three strokes.Rohana was also sentenced to six months' jail for having 0.01gm of syabu at 10.15am on May 10, at Kg.
