PETALING JAYA: Langkawi MP Nawawi Ahmad will have to face the police for his Facebook comment allegedly linking the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong to the controversial Malaysian Official One (MO1).Inspector-General of Police Khalid Abu Bakar said Nawawi would be called in soon to have his statement recorded as "part of the investigation process".

"We have received a few reports (against Nawawi) and investigations are being carried out," he said.

Nawawi came under fire for his claim that according to the Federal Constitution, the "Agong is the MO1".

Despite deleting the line later, it could still be seen by clicking the "edited" button on his Facebook comment.

Former Langkawi Umno member Anina Saadudin was the first to lodge a report against him and claimed that seven others had done the same.

Nawawi, however, said he was actually referring to "Malaysian Official Number One", which was different from the "Malaysian Official 1" (MO1) mentioned in the US Department of Justice's report on alleged embezzlement of 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) funds.

His excuse did not go down well with some, and Perkasa Youth headed over to Istana Negara in Kuala Lumpur to hand over an official request for the Agong to immediately act against the Umno lawmaker.

"That open allegation was clearly meant to divert public attention (from the 1MDB scandal) by dragging the Agong into the matter that is widely talked about in the international media.

"Hence, Perkasa is requesting for the Agong to pursue legal action against the Langkawi MP in order to protect the good name of the country's royal institution," said the Malay rights group in the letter addressed to the King.
