PBS also sets up panels to address MA63 breaches
Kundasang: Parti Bersatu Sabah will set up two high level committees on Borneonisation and devolution of power to reinstate what rightfully belongs to the State and Sabahans.Disclosing this, Monday, PBS acting President Datuk Seri Dr Maximus Ongkili (pic) said the two issues have been perennial topic of discussions and had been used by certain quarters to confuse the people.

"We need to defend what is still there, and take back what have been eroded," said Ongkili to nearly 200 participants after delivering his paper on "Understanding the Malaysia Agreement 1963" during the two-day PBS Leadership Seminar at the Kem Bina Negara, here, which ended Monday.

It is unclear whether the committees would coordinate their efforts with those initiated earlier by another Sabahan Federal Minister, Datuk Anifah Aman. Anifah's group includes some key opposition figures contributing their views as well.

The Energy, Green Technology and Water Minister would be heading the main committee on devolution of power while PBS Senior Vice President Datuk Radin Malleh would chair the High Level Committee on Borneonisation.

He said the two main committees would be supported by technical teams comprising senior politicians and lawyers of the party who are experts in various fields, as well as former senior civil servants, tasked to study and analyse the relevant issues, and findings and the proposed solutions would be presented to the party leadership for submission to the state and federal governments.

Ongkili, who was recently tasked to carry out the duties as party president added: "The Committee will study what was promised in the MA63 pertaining to the two perennial issues and recommend remedial action for restoration since they have not been honoured satisfactory."

He said it was important to study the undertakings in the MA63 pertaining to various safeguards, particularly Borneonisation, to ensure optimal participation of Sabahans, especially natives, in the civil services, as well as Government-Linked Companies (GLCs), in respect to promotions, scholarship awards and trainings.

"We want to make sure both the federal and state civil services are not monopolised by one group only," he said, adding PBS had always been championing these issues to ensure the future generations are given fair treatment as contained in the Malaysia Agreement.

The seminar for the Northern Zone comprising Tanjung Kapor, Pitas, Matunggong, Tandek, Tempasuk, Kadamaian and Usukan divisions, is the first of eight series meant for PBS divisional committee members, including from the youth and women wings, statewide.

Organised by the party's Training Bureau chaired by Ongkili, the seminar is primarily aimed at reminding participants' of the party struggle and updating party leaders at grass root level on current issues and the steps taken to address them, besides preparing them for the upcoming election.
