Nicol storms into HK Open semis

Kuala Lumpur: Malaysia's squash queen Datuk Nicol Ann David has advanced to the semifinals of the 2016 Hong Kong Open squash championship.In the quarterfinals held at the Hong Kong Park Sports Centre glass court, the 33-year-old Penangite defeated France's Camille Serme to book her semifinals berth.

The current world number three started of well by pulling away at the end of the first two sets against Camille winning in 11-8 and 13-11 but the latter fought back well to take the third 11-7.

Nicol gained back her composure and dominated the fourth set to win in 11-2 to move into the Hong Kong Open semifinals.

Nicol will be meeting fifth seed Nouran Gohar of Egypt, who stunned second seed Laura Massaro of England 11-8, 11-9, 8-11, 8-11 and 14-12 in a gruelling match that lasted for an hour and 20 minutes. – Bernama
