Pandelela has a Royal fan

"When they called my name, everybody was happy that I was present." Pandelela also posted a picture with the Queen on Instagram, expressing her appreciation at being acknowledged for her sporting achievements.

"Such an honour to receive the Tribute to Women Malaysia Award 2016 (Sport category) last night, especially from the Raja Permaisuri Agong, Tuanku Hajah Haminah. #triburetowomen2016 #Queen #starstruck #Yourock #thankyou #blessed," the statement read.

Besides Pandelela, the Queen also presented the award to 13 other women icons last Saturday.

Mahani Awang, MSP Communication Sdn Bhd managing director and founder of Tribute To Women Malaysia, said the recipients came from various fields including education, arts and culture, science and technology, humanitarian, sports and young entrepreneurs.

Besides Pandelela the other recipients were former journalist, Khalidah Adibah Amin for the lifetime awards category, former National Heart Institute chief executive officer Tan Sri Dr Robaayah Zambahari (science and technology), producer Puan Seri Tiara Jacqueline (art and culture), and former University Kebangsaan Malaysian vice chancellor Tan Sri Prof Emeritus Dr Sharifah Hapsah Syed Shahabudin (education).

"The recipients were selected by judges appointed by our management and based on several criteria they then went through a final selections," Mahani told reporters at the ceremony. Dr Sharifah Hapsah said the award encouraged her to continue improving to empower other women in their chosen fields.
