Jailed for threatening to hurt elder brother

Kota Kinabalu: A 27-year-old local man who threatened to hurt his elder brother was sent to prison for one week.Magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie ordered Mohd Shahfizie Petrus Abdullah to serve the sentence from Tuesday after he pleaded guilty to committing the offence against one Albert Petrus, 29, at 10am on Aug 24 in a first floor unit at Block 1, Taman Keramat near here.

Chief Inspector Lim Swee Beng, prosecuting, told the court that Shahfizie's mother lodged a police report after she witnessed him chasing Albert with an iron rod.

Shahfizie had earlier kicked his mother's room for no reason before he turned on his brother who managed to escape and called the police.

The court heard that Shahfizie, who was the second child, was a drunkard and always asking for money from his mother, berating her if she did not give him any.

Shahfizie was charged under Section 8(1)(e) of the Sabah Minor Offences Ordinance which provides for a RM25 fine or up to one week jail on conviction.

In another case, an Indonesian man was jailed five months for operating illegal betting during the Euro 2016 tournament.

Husein Taslim admitted to having six paper slips with the words 2016 Euro Cup 2016 betting on them, five pieces of Euro Cup match schedules, RM684 in cash and a pen at 6.30 on July 10 at the five-foot-way of the fish market in Putatan.

He was charged under Section 6(1) of the Betting Act 1953 which provides for a fine of up to RM5,000 or up to six months' jail or both on conviction.

Meanwhile, 25-year-old Filipino claimed trial to threatening to kill a Filipina.

Abd Kader Pae is accused of committing the crime on one Razrina, 18, with a pair of scissors and glass shards at 4am on Aug 23 at the workers' house of the Super Wave car wash at Taman Yu Min, Penampang.

The charge is framed under Section 506 of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of up to seven years or fine or both on conviction.

Kader was ordered remanded further pending mention of his case on Oct 11.
