Malaysia's internet traffic remains on rapid rise, says MyIX

Kuala Lumpur: Internet traffic in Malaysia remains on a rapid rise, said Malaysia Internet Exchange (MyIX).In a statement Wednesday, MyIX said, the findings were based on Internet data patterns recorded (up to August 2016) for Internet data that transversed over the national Internet exchange nodes that directly connected with the country's major Internet Service Providers (ISPs) and content providers."For August 2016, Internet data exchanged that transversed over the exchange notes reached a new high point of 170.47 gigabits per second (Gbps) the highest ever recorded in the country's history," it said.

MyIX said the latest figures reflected a year-on-year growth of 57 per cent and compounded annual growth rate 56.6 per cent since 2012.MyIX, a non-profit organisation, is an initiative under the Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Commission through the cooperation of local internet services providers to connect and exchange local Internet traffic.MyIX Chairman, Chiew Kok Hin, said throughout 2016, peak points for each month have exceeded the 100 Gbps mark."This is not surprising given Malaysia's current Internet landscape, which is driven by improved data plans, mobile Internet, video content, cloud computing as well as more companies agreeing to peer with MyIX," he said.
