LD Indians unable to worship

Lahad Datu: The Indian community here is forced to go to other districts, such as Tawau and Sandakan to worship due to the lack of a temple. Silam Wanita Umno leader, Mizma Appehdullah, said the Indian community is among those who contributed in the development of this district.

Officiating the Deepavali celebration night organised by the Lahad Datu Indian community.

Mizma who is also a Lahad Datu District Council member said she will highlight the problem faced by the community.

"They informed me that they are in need of a temple to worship, especially during Hindu festivals.

I hope the Government will give attention to this matter," she said.

She said this community have been actively involved in education, medical and other field including in professional field.

"The Indian community have also contributed in the economic development of the plantation sector over the years.

Before they were involved in the rubber sector and now they are working as professional workers in the palm oil sector.

"They have also played their roles in educating our children and taking care of our health. Their contribution puts this district's development in strong level," she said.

Meanwhile, the organizer of the celebration, Ravi Vellan, hoped the community would continue to focus in their respective fields to contribute in the development of the country.

During the ceremony, Mizma also presented some contribution for the use of the community.

The event was attended by about 150 people.
