Stealing cleanser cream: Housewife jailed, fined

Kota Kinabalu: A 31-year-old housewife who stole a cosmetic item from a shop was jailed 10 months and fined RM2,000 or two months' jail.Noraini Bekkong, 31, who holds an IMM13 document, pleaded guilty in the Magistrate's Court to stealing a box of cleanser cream at Najwa Enterprise on the ground floor of the Karamunsing Complex at 7.45am on July 15.

Chief Inspector Lim Swee Beng, prosecuting, told the court that prior to the incident, two security guards of the complex saw a couple enter the building and noticed one of them taking an item from a display rack at the Najwa premises.

The couple, later identified as Noraini and her husband, were arrested while attempting to leave the building.

During mitigation, legal aid counsel Timothy Daut told the court that Noraini's husband is currently serving sentence after he was charged last week with a similar offence and also for staying in the State illegally.

He said the couple has a six-year-old child.

Magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie ordered Noraini referred to the Immigration Department after serving her sentence.

Noraini had committed an offence under Section 380 of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of up to 10 years and liability of a fine on conviction.

In another case, a 28-year-old Indonesian was jailed 12 months for having stolen properties.

Firmansyah Mohammad admitted to having one Junaidey Along's notebook computer and handphone at 6.30pm on Oct 8 at Taman Penampang Baru.

The court heard that Firmansyah confessed to have received the stolen items from one Jamali as his share from a burglary committed by his accomplices at Taman Kingfisher.

Meanwhile, a Filipino Jimhar Arajul was handed 11 months' jail for trespassing.

Jimhar, 30, pleaded guilty to committing the offence in a house at Taman Antarabangsa here at 3.18pm on July 17.

Both Firmansyah and Jimhar were also ordered referred to the Immigration Department after serving their sentences.
