Faizal emerges champ in chess tournament

Tuaran: Sabah's Faizal Andin came top in the Kent ITE (Institute of Teacher Education) International Open Chess Tournament held at the ITE Kent Campus over the weekend.Second spot was won by Abdul Sahim Wising also from Sabah. Nicolly Minsih captured the best woman player award while the best ITE player award went to Mohd Faisal Roslan. In the junior categories, the boys and girls Under-18 titles were won by Awang Mohd Syafie Mohd Kifflee and Erina Nazihah Mohd Johari respectively.

The Under-15 title for the boys went to Leonard O Brian Moimin and the girls title to Nurul Atirah Abdul Fattah while Adam Mikail Ab Halim took the boys Under-12 category and Adellisa Cmyrna Moimin ruled in the girls category.156 participated in the two-day tournament held for the third time under the organisation of Sabah Chess Association (SCA) and ITE which was officiated by Doti Asing, Deputy Director of ITE Kent Campus Kent and also present was SCA President, Muammar Julkarnain.Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.

The main purpose of the tournament was to nurture high order thinking skill (Hots) amongst the players and to unearth more talented and capable Sabah chess players to compete at international level, as well as to build good relations between ITE Kent Campus and SCA with outside agencies for the development of the sport. The organising committee also expressed their deepest appreciation to all the sponsors for their support to ensure the success of the tournament.
