Dec 1 remention for Sanjeevan's fake degree case

Kuala Lumpur: The Magistrate's Court here Wednesday set Dec 1 for remention of Malaysian Crime Watch Task Force (MyWatch) chairman Datuk R.Sri Sanjeevan's fake academic qualification case.Magistrate Umzarul An-Nur Umar fixed the date after the accused's counsel, Joanne Chua Tsu Fay requested for time to study the documents received from deputy public prosecutor Noor Jazilah Mohd Yushaa, Wednesday.

Last Aug 25, Sanjeevan claimed trial to a charge of misleading a company director, S.Sivam, 53, into believing that he possessed a law degree and a business degree from Northumbria University and Camden University.

He allegedly did so to induce Sivam into appointing him as a consultant with Solid Transactions Sdn Bhd, and handing more than RM95,000 to him.

The charge under Section 420 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of not more than 10 years and liable to whipping and fine, on conviction.

Sanjeevan also claimed trial to an alternative charge of misleading Sivam into believing that he possessed two law and business degrees from the same university, and into appointing him as consultant.

The charge under Section 417 of the Penal Code, carries a jail term of up to five years or a fine or both, on conviction.

He allegedly committed the offences at Cheras Leisure Mall, Taman Segar, Cheras here on June 1, 2013. – Bernama
