Kuala Lumpur: Maybank has introduced 'DeepaMONEY' service via Maybank2u online platform which enables customers to send cash gifts to their loved ones in conjunction with Deepavali celebration this Saturday.Head of Community Financial Services Datuk Hamirullah Boorhan said the introduction of the service, which is available from today until Nov 11, was driven by the success of e-Duit Raya and e-Ang Pow services.

"The number of transactions for our e-Duit Raya rose by more than six-fold this year with over 20,000 transactions compared with 3,000 transactions in 2015.

"Our pioneer e-Ang Pow service in 2016 had recorded close to 16,000 transactions," he said in a statement Thursday.

Hamirullah added that the bank was expecting 4,000 transactions via the DeepaMONEY service on Maybank2u website and mobile application.

He said customers using the service could send money, to be credited into a recipient's account at Maybank or other banks with a maximum amount of RM5,000 per day, to 10 accounts in a single transaction.

"At Maybank, we are constantly looking for opportunities to leverage our online capabilities and delight our customers with a wide range of services that will enhance their lifestyle.

"We hope this DeepaMONEY service will enhance the Deepavali celebration and help meet the needs of our customers who want to send cash gifts to their loved ones, near or far," he added.

Maybank2u currently leads the market share for online banking in Malaysia with more than RM170 billion in transaction value between January and September 2016. – Bernama
