Kota Kinabalu: The Sabah Council of Datuks (MDNS) has joined the chorus of support for the appointment of Tan Sri Richard Malanjum as the Chief Justice of Malaysia upon the retirement of Tun Arifin Zakaria in March next year.MDNS President Datuk Claudius Roman said Malanjum, who is currently the Chief Justice of Sabah and Sarawak, should be given the opportunity to hold the post as he is more than qualified for the highest post in the Malaysian judiciary.

"In fact, I and Malanjum were schoolmates at the La Salle Secondary School. When I was the President of Sandakan Municipal Council, he (Malanjum) was a High Court judge.

"Malanjun has a commendable character, integrity, intelligence and is hardworking.

Among his notable contributions was the initiation of the Mobile Court programme throughout the rural areas in Sabah.

Also he (Malanjum) would personally find time to help the poor and needy families, especially the natives in the rural areas of the State," he said, Thursday.

Apart from that, Roman said Malanjum also rendered counselling and education aid to some identified broken families so that the children would not resort to crimes.

In view of his great contributions to the State and Federal, Claudius said Malanjum should be given the opportunity to hold the top post in the judiciary in the country that would make all Sabahans proud.
