Kuala Lumpur: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) today arrested two civil servants in separate operations and froze several bank accounts containing millions of ringgit, believed to have been amassed through graft. The first case involves a 55-year-old man who was nabbed in Malacca for taking bribes involving several local council projects. The MACC also froze several of the suspect's bank accounts containing millions.

Another civil servant was arrested in Johor for abusing his power as an assistant land officer.

The suspect, who was arrested at 2pm Monday, allegedly misused his position to acquire real estate, including through land ownership transfers.

The case is being investigated under Section 23 of the MACC Act 2009.

Initial investigations revealed that the suspect owns 16.75 acres of agricultural land, 68 acres of joint-venture land, housing land and a luxury residence.

MACC director of Johor, Datuk Simi Abdul Ghani, confirmed the arrest, adding that the suspect is expected to be remanded Tuesday.
