Hudud bid: PBS to go all out

LAWAS: Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) Deputy President, Datuk Seri Panglima Dr Maximus Ongkili reiterated the party's stand that it will not support the implementation of Hudud law.Voicing out PBS' strong objection to the PAS' Private Bill on Syariah amendment, Ongkili who is also the Minister of Energy, Green Technology and Water said they will use all the power they have to prevent it from being imposed."Proposed amendments to be tabled by Hadi contravene provisions of the Federal Constitution," he said adding that the country already has it own Penal Code to punish criminals according to their offences.

"Should the Bill come to pass, it will be overlapping to the existing legal system that we have been practicing all these while," he stressed.He also said the country cannot have two systems at the same time.While the hudud law only applied to Muslims, it would "if enforced will dictate the lifestyles of everyone, especially the non-Muslims, he added.For the sake of all Malaysians, PBS will stand strong in objecting the Bill from being approved and imposed.

"PBS will strongly reject the Bill, which being tabled by PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang," he said to the large crowd after officiating a new community hall and handling ceremony of Government's contribution to the religious institutions here in Kampung Baru Mission.Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.
