Sabah clinch SGA Senior Cup

Kota Kinabalu: The State senior golfers defeated Sarawak 14-10 in the 2nd SGA Senior Cup tournament which concluded at the Sabah Golf and Country Club on Wednesday.In a tense encounter, it was the singles that sealed the win for the hosts on the final day after both teams battled to a six all draw on the second day of competition. Sabah managed to win six singles events out of 12 through Desmond Jong, Ng Loong Fah, Peter Kong, Lim Lam Seng, Louis Samy and Tan Lim with draw results from Noor Salleh, Dato Guldah, Wong Soo Kong and Peter Tan.

The visitors who won the inaugural event with ease last year only managed to win two singles events through Aziz Sahari and Wong Lay Nam while Bernard Ling, Jimmy Teo, Joseph Lau and Yek Chin Chung drew their respective matches.

The mode of play for the three-day competition was based on the Ryder-Cup format where each team consists of 14 players.

The six foursome matches were played on day one followed by six four-ball matches on day two and 12 singles on the final day.
