Kuala Lumpur: The Employees Provident Fund's (EPF) investigations following a news report on missing savings by a civil service pensioner found that the account had been withdrawn in 1990 and 1993.The EPF in a statement Wednesday said following a report by a Malay daily dated December 5 which carried a claim made by a civil service pensioner over his missing EPF savings, it had initiated an immediate investigation into the matter.

It said this included visiting the member at his residence and obtaining his fingerprint for verification.

"Based on our internal investigations, we can confirm that his fingerprint matched the EPF Member Registration records and the EPF Withdrawal Application forms," it said.

In addition, the EPF said it had verified that the member's fingerprint also matched the thumbprints affixed to the cheques that were encashed for withdrawal payments in 1990 and 1993, respectively, totalling RM8,199.71.

"We would like to assure members that it is the EPF's core responsibility to safeguard and preserve members' retirement savings," it said.

It said all members were encouraged to check with the nearest EPF branch if they have queries on their account details.

"Members should also register for i-Akaun so that they can keep track of their EPF account activities at their convenience," it added. – Bernama
