Tawau: Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Tawfiq Abu Bakar Titingan urged clubs here to work with the Tawau District Sepak Takarw Association (Astaka Tawau) in the development of the sport."I hope all clubs in Tawau will be united under Astaka Tawau to work together in unearthing new talents and further transform them into calibre players in line with our aim to develop the sports in this zone," he said this at the closing of the Tawau Zone Sepak Takraw League, Sunday.

He realised that Tawau players have contributed a lot to the state and country recently.

"In the Sukma Games in Kuching, our women team won three gold medals and two Tawau players were among the team members, and I was also made to understand that one of athletes to represent Malaysia in the Kuala Lumpur 2017 SEA Games also comes from Tawau."

The minister also praised Astaka Tawau for organising the league competition even though they had just registered last year.

"Congratulation also to all 16 teams from Lahad Datu, Semporna, Kunak and Tawau who took part in the two-day competition," he added.
