Lahad Datu: The Consumer Affairs and Protection Society (Caps) of Sabah in Lahad Datu wants the authorities including the Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry (KPDNKK) to give serious consideration in controlling the prices of school supplies, including school uniforms. Its Chairman Nagaraju Applasamy said the call followed a survey by Caps on several business premises in conjunction with the opening of 2017 school session which found the prices of schooling items increasing every year in this district.

"The cost of buying four exercise books (100 pages), a small box of colour pencils, a ruler, an eraser and two pencils was RM10 compared to RM8.30 for the same set bought last year," he said when met by reporters here Saturday.

According to him, apart from that, Caps also found the prices of school uniform rose by RM10 this year.

"Now a set of female secondary school student uniform cost between RM45.80 to RM47.80 while the item was priced between RM40 to RM42 last year.
