Tawau witnessing rise in drugs: Cops

Tawau: Tawau is seeing an increase in drug trafficking, especially Syabu, and police are determined to put an end to it, said District Police Chief ACP Fadil Marsus.He said this in the wake of the arrest of two suspected traffickers believed to be members of a syndicate who were nabbed with 6.17kg of syabu on Wednesday.The arrests came following a struggle with police at a convenience store at Jalan Bunga Fajar Complex at 10.45pm here.

The first suspect, aged 48, whose address was given as Jenjarom, Selangor, was apprehended near a Toyota Vios, while the second, 29, from Taman Tawau was arrested in the vehicle. According to him, both left a nearby hotel when they were stopped by a police team from the State and Tawau Narcotics Crime Investigation Department led by ASP Ederian Masaat. "Inspection on the luggage led to the discovery of five packets containing the drugs believed brought to the district from the peninsula," he said.
