Loans for further studies in China

Sibu: Students with financial constraints but keen to pursue further studies in China can apply for loans from the Study In China Education Fund (SICE Fund).The Association of Graduate Universities and Colleges in China, Malaysian Liaison invited eligible students to apply for the fund, its committee chairman Datuk Lau Nai Ho told reporters.

"SICE Fund will disburse money as education loans. "We are inculcating the concept of 'do good and give back to society'," he said.

Lau has been appointed to manage the SICE Fund. He said the fund would be launched on Jan 14 in Kuching by China consulate Fu Ji Jun while the inauguration ceremony would be officiated by Second Finance Minister Datuk Seri Wong Soon Koh.

"SICE Fund is one of the initiatives taken by China to encourage Malaysians to further their studies in China," Lau said.

He added that schools in Sarawak that had agreed to take up loans under the fund included Chung Hua Middle School No. 1, No. 3 and No. 4, SMK Batu Kawa Min Lit, SMK Serian Public, Samarahan, Guong Ming Middle School, SMK Wong Nai Siong, Kiang Hin Middle School, Catholic High School, Citizen Middle School, Kai Dee Middle School Bintulu, Pei Min Middle School, SMK Ming Lik and SK Methodist, Sibu.

Launch event organising committee chairman Dr Wong Siu Eng said the amount of each loan was expected to be between RM9,000 and RM10,000 for the first year and RM5,000 for the preceding year, depending on the courses.
