Kota Kinabalu: Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) Supreme Council member John Stephen Dionysius lodged a police report against Free Sandakan Today (FST) reporter Shaimon Sarmon Jumadi for allegedly defaming the party and its leaders.According to Stephen, Shaimon made the statement on Facebook on Monday which smeared and slandered with the intention to cause damages and humiliation to SAPP and its President Datuk Seri Yong Teck Lee.

"This is yet another statement made by an irresponsible person falsely accusing and implying that Yong and the party were involved in millions of ringgit in bribery deals during the 13th General Election with Umno/BN to split votes in order to sabotage the Pakatan Rakyat chances to form the State government.

"Furthermore, the individual also insulted the party members and the President's reputation by liking us to a dog sniffing its faeces. This statement had hurt thousands of SAPP members," he said during a press conference after lodging the report here, Tuesday.

He added that the report was made so that the police can also investigate Shaimon who they believed was responsible for the circulation of the slanderous piece entitled 'Gabungan Pembangkang Sabah Tolak Shafie' (United Sabah Alliance Rejects Shafie) widely shared on Facebook and various WhatsApp groups.

He said the statement is false because the United Sabah Alliance (USA) had made several open invitations to Parti Warisan Sabah but until today, Warisan has not responded.

"The unethical and irresponsible behaviour of this individual should be penalised," he said.

Stephen said the continuous assault committed against SAPP was aimed to politically assassinate SAPP and Yong's political career.

He reminded other ill-intentioned individuals that in March 2014, former DAP Youth Chairman and current Warisan Vice President Junz Wong also made baseless accusations against Yong and as a result, Junz was found guilty and ordered to apologise.

In this case, Junz was found guilty after stating in his Facebook page that Yong had received RM50 million from Umno/BN during the last General Election.

"The action by some quarters to smear the party will not hinder the members and we will become stronger as we face the coming General Election. We are here to fight for Sabah and protect Sabah's interest through Malaysia Agreement 1963 under the USA banner," he said.
