Tawau: Tawau Municipal Council has warned that it will not entertain middlemen who deal with trading licence applications. Its President Alijus Sipil urged anyone who has information about middlemen or even his own people being asked to handle such matters to lodge a report.

He said this when asked about claims about middlemen asking a high fee up to RM200 for their service in dealing with application of trading licences.

He said effective Jan 1 this year, the processing fee for trading licence renewal and application has been upped to RM30 from RM25 previously.

He said the increase is in line with the improved service of the council.

"Before it took two weeks to process an application, but now it only takes one to three days," he said.

On another development, Alijus informed that the council will introduce a 30 per cent rebate on assessment rate for businesses in three zones in the municipality as incentive for giving their premises a facelift by repainting.

He said a notice will be issued this week so that premise owners will be able to start painting their buildings by March or April.

He added that the choice of paint colour has been determined.

On public complaints, Alijus said they have received 34 submissions and 40 others to various government agencies.

He said of the total, 21 complaints have been resolved while 23 others were still be acted upon.

He also said the council will organise more sessions to meet with customers this year in order to hear their complaints.
