K'gau CNY events start today

Keningau: A three-day Chinese New Year celebration will be held starting Jan. 20 (today) at the Padang Bandaran Keningau. It will begin with the lighting of lanterns by a local corporate figure Liew Tet Yong on Friday to be followed by some Chinese cultural performances on Jan. 21 at 6.30pm onwards.

The programme will continue on Jan. 22 which will be attended by the Consul General of the Peoples Republic of China in Kota Kinabalu, Chen Peiji.

According to the organising chairman of the three-day celebration Fong Fui Min, everyone is invited to share in the festive joy.

He said the public will find lots of entertaining programmes which have been prepared throughout the three days.

He also said that the highlight will be a lion dance to be performed by 30 troupes on Sunday.

Fong, who is also a Capitan Cina in the district, thanked Liew, Parti Bersatu Sabah youth chief Datuk Jack Nointin and another local corporate figure Dato Yap Yoke Teck for their donations to make the event a success.
