Kota Kinabalu: Sabah Barisan Nasional Backbenchers' Club (SBNBBC) Chairman Datuk Seri Abdul Rahim questioned the failure of Parti Warisan Sabah President Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal to use his authority and influence when he was a Federal Minister to review the agreement with Felda and reclaim unused lands under the scheme. "It is very easy to stand behind a rostrum, play to the gallery and spew all kinds of rhetoric, harsh criticisms and grandiose promises when one is no longer part of the ruling government," he said.

"At one time, he appeared to be very close to the Prime Minister. Why didn't he talk to him?

After all, he claims to be the 'Anak Jati Sabah' who is supposed to look after Sabah's interest."

Rahim said now that Shafie is no longer with the ruling government, it is convenient to throw all kinds of criticisms and belittle the efforts of the same government that has given him the platform and resources to do so.

Rahim was commenting on a pledge by Shafie that Parti Warisan would review the agreement signed with Felda to reclaim lands which have not been used as.

Shafie said the review would only be made possible if Sabahans' gave their mandate to the party to form the State Government in the coming elections.

Rahim said Shafie could have contributed so much more to the development of Sabah through Risda and Felcra, which are agencies under the Federal Rural and Regional Development Ministry, that he once helmed.

"Never mind Risda and Felcra. Even as a Rural and Regional Development Minister, the billions of Ringgit in allocations for rural roads, electricity and water have not benefitted Sabah in a significant way.

"In many rural parts of Sabah, we have electrical poles without cables, water pipes without water and rural roads constructed in the middle of nowhere," he said.
