Kota Kinabalu: Parkinson's Support Group Kota Kinabalu (PSG KK), an informal support group for people living with Parkinson's Disease (PwP), carers and family members, has just been formed. It is the initiative of three individuals – Theresa Tong, James Lee and George Lim – following their second meeting on Jan 18.

This followed a presentation on Living a Meaningful Life with Parkinson's Disease by the President of the Perak Parkinson's Association (PPA), Samuel Ng by the President of the Perak Parkinson's Association (PPA), Samuel Ng, here, recently.

"We now open our door to all people living with Parkinson's disease, their carers and family members.

Our monthly meetings are informal and friendly, and range from group discussions and sharing experiences, information, experiences, practical tips and advice on living with Parkinson's Disease, to educational sessions by guest speakers and social outings," Lee said.

He stressed that getting together with other people facing similar challenges allows everyone to share feelings, resources and experiences.

Support groups, Lee said, also provide motivation and inspiration to help one deal positively with the changes to one's lifestyle.

"They also give you a chance to meet new people, which helps to break down any feelings of isolation associated with the disease," he added.

Anyone interested to join the group may SMS or WhatsApp his or her name and mobile phone number to Lee at 019-8126196, and state whether you are a PwP or a carer/family member.
