Kota Kinabalu: Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) in collaboration with Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) have adopted a wider use of drone technology with the hope of reducing the frequency of service disruption on its customers. The new technology will be used to identify the risks on existing lines especially in areas with many big trees so that appropriate action can be taken such as cutting down these potentially harmful trees.

Other than that, the facility is also capable of giving detailed information about some lines situated on hilly terrain which are usually difficult to access.

The initiative is hoped to give positive impact and reduce the need for SESB staff to do on-field physical monitoring which usually would take longer time.

The project had already started with the drones monitoring a total of 196km of lines around Kota Kinabalu and Kota Marudu since Feb 9. The efforts are part of TNB/SESB's initiatives to achieve its System Average Interruption Duration Index (SAIDI) target of 250 minutes per consumer set by SESB this year.
