Christian bags first ITF title of year

Kota Kinabalu: Sabahan Christian Didier Chin won his first ITF (International Tennis Federation) title of the year when he clinched the Cambodia Junior ITF G5 Doubles title in Phnom Penh with his partner Tsai Chang-lin from Taiwan. It was also Christian's 6th doubles title from year 2016-2017. Sabah Tennis Association, in a statement on Monday, said Christian has improved tremendously after he was sent for exposure to the 2017 Australian Junior Open earlier this year.

After training in Australia and New Zealand for a month, his game had improved tremendously and he has started to grasp play and competition at the higher level to match the bigger boys. It is going to be a hectic few weeks for the rising tennis ace as, after competing in the Tennis Cambodia Junior ITF G5, he would fly directly to China to play in the China Shenzhen ITF (Grade 3) tournament from February 28 to March 4 following which he will proceed to Thailand for the LTAT ITF Junior (Grade 1) tournament scheduled from March 6-11. He would then fly directly to Kuching to take part in the 9th Sarawak Chief Minister's Cup (I) ITF Junior Tennis Championship (Grade 1) on March 14-19.Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.

STA President Johnson Koh said he was happy for Christian and had talked with his father Christopher who wants his son to play in more tournaments as he is confident Christian can go much further before he reaches the age of 18.

STA said it has written to MSN Sabah and is hoping for a positive response from the Youth and Sports Ministry as well.
