Eco-friendly devt plan for Matanani
Kota Belud: Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Abdul Rahman Dahlan (pic) said the Government will develop Mantanani Island using an eco-friendly green approach. Speaking to the media, he said the low carbon development masterplan has been prepared for the island.

"All infrastructure development on the island will be planned based on this eco-friendly low carbon approach through the use of green technology," he said.

Abdul Rahman said this at the handing over of equipment for the management and clearing of solid waste on the island, on Saturday.

On the event, he said the handing over of the equipment will help improve the cleanliness of the island.

The island currently lacks a systematic solid waste management system.

He said RM2.84 million was allocated to the project for the equipment, with an operational cost of RM1 million a year.

Rahman said he had discussed with the Economic Planning Unit for a budget allocation of RM17 million for projects to construct a jetty on the island and in Kota Belud for tourism purposes.

He also announced a RM5 million allocation for a clinic to be set up in Mantanani where the construction will be carried out this year. - Neil Chan
