SGCC versus Sabah in inaugural Junior Match Play Championship

Kota Kinabalu: Team Sabah Golf and Country Club (SGCC) will take on team Sabah in the 1st Sabah Junior Match Play Championship to be held at SGCC on March 20.The inaugural event which is a brainchild of the SGCC Junior Golf Development Programme (JGDP) Committee, will see the top 48 boy and girl junior golfers selected from throughout Sabah to compete against each other in a Ryder Cup format.

Club President Datuk Peter Khoo who is also the organising chairman said each team will have their best 24 players and he believes the event will generate huge excitement among the junior golfing community in Sabah.

"Our SGCC JGDP Committee has set its sight and objective to reverse the declining trend in Sabah's junior golfing standard and talent depth by implementing an unique junior programme since last year, and it actually caught the attention of the national media as it was featured in the Golf Digest and other newspapers.

"Our objectives of the event are to instil discipline among junior golfers in training and build aptitude for hard work.

To insure juniors attain high standards of behaviour and conduct, display good etiquette and values and respect each other during competition. To generate passion among junior golfers and support from parents and the community, to prepare junior golfers for future State and national duties and to foster good will and team spirit among juniors, parents, clubs and officials," he said on Thursday.

He added that the competition with Danny Lim as tournament Director and supported by the SGCC JGDP Committee will start at 6.30 am with the march past, oath taking and introduction of the teams and he also called on the public to come and give their support.

Team Sabah is represented by team manager Ronnie Pancratius, coach Donnie Intung and players Neil Bainon (Boy Captain), Jacqueline Nickels (Girl Captain), Maxwin Chiew, Sharie Tambakau, Hizzeq Tambakau,Danniel Donnie, Maxbohemia Justin,Ampuan Ikram, Bryan William, Brandon Yong, Syahzril Syahril, Khairy Syazwan, Mohd Taufiq, Mohd Ikmal Jasni,Mohd Miqami Azman,Mohd Hizzeq Danish,Cyqal Vozoon Felix, Jeffryn Zainuddin, Awang Farish, Chew Iyoun,Dayang Nur Wafikah,Nurul Dyana,Valarie Vanessa Langkab,Nurul Natsya Azira,Nabillah Aliffuddin, Irsalina Akmadin, Chew I Jin, Iva Latius,Dynneva Joyce,Shah Izzati, Ashley Liguya Johnny, Khadeeja Ashyari.
