UCSF widens education opportunities

Kota Kinabalu: University College Sabah Foundation's (UCSF) first session for 2017 will commence on April 17.UCSF offers foundation, diploma and degree programmes aimed towards building human capital to sustain the long-term development and growth of Sabah.

The disciplines of studies include natural sciences, business, hospitality, entrepreneurship, tourism, events, social sciences, arts and creative media.

Management and Entrepreneurship Faculty Dean Dr Alan Lim said the key economic model of Sabah specified the oil and gas industry, ecotourism, hospitality, agricultural, aquaculture, manufacturing and the creative industries as the prevailing and future driving forces of the State's economic growth.

"If we look at it strategically, one will note that these are also the high-value sectors which will contribute enormously to the financial well-being and stability of the State," he said.

According to him, UCSF was set up to widen higher education opportunity for youths in Sabah, so that they too may savour the benefit generated by the State's economic success.

"UCSF is a distinctive higher learning institution, one which leverages the rich natural resources and the diversified strengths of Sabah.

"The curriculum developed by the university will prepare, develop and equip its students with the relevant knowledge, contemporary skill-set and quality literacy required to compete in the new digitised world."

Students who excelled in their recent Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) and Sijil Tinggi Pelajaran Malaysia (STPM) examinations are encouraged to inquire about the Merit Scholarship offered by UCSF, he said.

In addition, students with exceptional leadership quality and who performed excellently in their extra-curricular activities are also encouraged to apply for the Zero Fee Scheme offered by UCSF.
