Kota Kinabalu: Gen Y has been urged to seek points of similarity and not only focus on differences.Information Department Director-General Dato' Ibrahim Abdul Rahman advised the group to use all their potential and talent and endeavour to develop these holistically."The talents and abilities need to be polished and developed so that the country could provide human resource that is skilled, creative and innovative, especially in filling jobs, he said while officiating at the 'Apa Kata Gen Y' programme at the Recital Hall, Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS), here, Saturday.

His speech was delivered by the department (Management Division) Deputy Director General Datuk Almain Ajirul.Ibrahim hoped the younger generation would be able to gather opinion to understand and appreciate real patriotism.
"We are aware that you are second-liners who will inherit the leadership of the country at a later time and it is your responsibility to maintain the trust, national security and the country's sovereignty."Because of that, the Government has always given space and opportunity for young people to get involved in the affairs and administration of an organisation or society.

"As citizens, we need to support operations and development by the Government to ensure the preservation of the nation."We need to rise up and defend the harmony that we are enjoying now so that it is not only enjoyed by us alone, but continues to be enjoyed by our children and forever," he said.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak recently launched the National Transformation Programme (TN50) and it marks the beginning of the public engagement process which will be brought to every state and to the grassroots, said Ibrahim.He said the TN50 will involve 1.5 million Malaysian youths this year through town hall sessions, focused discussion and through other programmes.
