150 golfers expected for Sabah Amateur Open

Kota Kinabalu: Sabah Golf Association (SGA) and Keningau Golf and Country Club (KUGC) will jointly organise the 33rd Sabah Amateur Open scheduled to be held at KUGC from April 28-30.Some 150 players including at least 24 ladies are expected to take part in the three-day competition with world ranking point.

SGA President Datuk George Bandusena in a press conference on Monday called on all amateur players with handicap 14 and below or USGA index 12.7 below to register early for the availability slot.

He said top five finishers in the Open will be granted free entrance fee for the 115th Malaysia Amateur Open to be held in Karambunai Golf Resort in May.

"Apart from that, SGA will also use this tournament to select players to represent the State in future meets," he added.

Meanwhile, KUGCC President Johnny Kulai said with close cooperation and guidance from SGA, he is confident the Club will be able to host the tournament successfully.

"On behalf of KUGCC, we are grateful and honoured to be chosen to host the most prestigious tournament in Sabah by SGA.

"Keningau is ready to accept the presence of all players with their family and supporters because we are not just offering a 18 hole golf course, but there are many places in the district that worth visiting as well."

Attractive prizes are to be given out to both Gross and Nett winners including the Nett senior age 55 and above.

Head of State Tun Juhar Mahiruddin is expected to be present at the closing ceremony. – GL Oh
