Kuala Lumpur: Minister of International Trade and Industry, Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed, will participate in the Asean Economic Ministers (AEM) Roadshow to Japan from April 6-8, 2017.In a statement Wednesday, the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (Miti), said the roadshow involved Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka and Wakayama.

"The roadshow's main objective is to raise awareness among Japanese companies about the potential of Asean as a competitive trading market and attractive investment destination," it said.

The last AEM Roadshow to Japan was held in May 2012. Similar AEM Roadshows had also been held previously to China, Canada and the US.

Miti said subsequent to the AEM Roadshow, Mustapa will also be undertaking a trade and investment mission to Japan from Aril 9-12, 2017 and South Korea from April 13-14, 2017.

"Mustapa will be leading a delegation of up to 60 participants comprising officials from agencies, including Malaysian Investment Development Authority, East Coast Economic Region Council, Northern Corridor Implementation Authority, Invest Penang and Sabah Economic Development and Investment Authority," it said.

The ministry said this mission was an important annual engagement for it to continue to enhance Malaysia's bilateral economic relations with Japan and South Korea.

The programme included bilateral meetings with the minister's counterparts in Seoul, seminars in Osaka, Tokyo and Seoul focusing on business opportunities in Malaysia, it said.

Miti said Mustapa was also scheduled to have one-to-one business meetings and roundtable meetings with selected captains of industry as well as small and medium enterprises.

"The meetings with Japanese and South Korean companies will explore potential areas such as halal food and services, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, cosmetics, machinery, biomass, electrical and electronics, animation and Internet of things," it said.

Mustapa will also take the opportunity to meet with Malaysian students and professionals during his visit to those countries, it said. – Bernama
