Kota Kinabalu: State leaders have slammed DAP's Kepayan Assemblyman Dr Edwin Bosi for threatening to leave the party if he is not fielded in the 14th General Election. They said Bosi was a naive politician, who showed lack of confidence in his own party, and that he should review his own performance as an elected representative first.

"He makes that threat because he is confident his supporters will follow him no matter which party he is with," Parti Bersatu Sabah secretarygeneral Datuk Johnny Mositun told New Straits Times.

Bosi, who is also Sabah DAP Deputy Chairman, on Thursday said he would not hesitate to join another Sabah-based opposition party if DAP refused to allow him to defend his seat in GE14.

Bosi had also claimed he was dissatisfied with Sabah DAP for not showing any interest in the indigenous people of Sabah.

Sabah DAP Chairman Stephen Wong had, however, said Bosi was among 30 potential candidates shortlisted to contest in GE14, although he could not confirm Bosi's candidacy.

Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah (PBRS) Secretary-General Datuk Johnson Tee said Bosi's threat would create the impression that he was in politics for personal gain.

Asked whether Bosi was attempting to persuade other parties to offer him an opportunity to defend his seat, Tee said: "It's too late as his 'share price' has dropped drastically."

State-based opposition Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) President Datuk Seri Yong Teck Lee said he was not surprised with Bosi's statement, saying many DAP lawmakers had left the party in the past.

Sabah Umno Youth vice-chief Shahelmy Yahya, however, said Bosi had tried to prove that he was an assemblyman who worked for the people.

"However, he realised that he did not choose the right platform, which resulted in him making that kind of remark."

Shahelmy said Bosi's move might "backfire" and hurt his credibility as a politician.
