Fun Ride and Fun Run to raise fundS for eradicating polio

Kota Kinabalu: All net proceeds from the "End Polio Now" Awareness Fun Ride & Fun Run 2017 Kota Kinabalu will be channelled to The Rotary Foundation End Polio Now Fund.President of the Rotary Club of Penampang, Nelson Mosinoh said funds are being raised through registration fees and jersey/T-shirt sales."For the past 30 years, Rotary International (RI) has been working hard to eradicate polio in line with its motto of 'Service Above Self'. We have reduced polio cases by 99.9pc since 1988.

"The forthcoming event here is part of Rotary District 3310 effort to support the 'End Polio Now' campaign held worldwide. The aims are to create awareness on the ongoing effort to eradicate the Poliovirus and to raise funds for the eradication of this disease," he said.Poliovirus is a highly contagious virus that only infects human and lives in the infected person's throat and intestines. The virus spreads via oral contact with contaminated human waste.The Fun Ride and Fun Run to be flagged off by Minister of Youth and Sports, Datuk Tawfiq Abu Bakar Titingan and Mayor Datuk Yeo Boon Hai respectively will take place on April 30 (Sunday) at 7am at the Likas Hockey Stadium, Kota Kinabalu Sports Complex.Nelson said the event is jointly organised by the nine Rotary Clubs of Kota Kinabalu Pearl (Chair), Kota Kinabalu, Kota Kinabalu South, Luyang, Likas Bay, Kinabalu Sutera, Kota Kinabalu Mandarin, Tanjung Aru and Penampang.

The advisers are Past District 3310 Governor Datuk Zainie Abdul Aucasa and President of the Rotary Club of Pearl, Datuk Noni Said with Datuk Suzannah Liaw as Organising Chairperson. "We are supported by five partners – Ministry of Youth and Sports (Sabah), Kota Kinabalu City Hall (DBKK), Sabah Sports Board, Sabah Athletics Association and Sabah Amateur Radio Society," he added.

Participation is open to members of all the Rotary Clubs, their families, well-wishers and members of the public.Nelson appealed to Rotarians and members of the public who would like to support the noteworthy cause but are not participating in the Fun Ride or Fun Run, to purchase the commemorative Roundneck T-shirt (RM50) or Jersey (RM120) for their collection. Sizes are from XS to XXL.
